Heartbeat Powers Pacemaker: CAIRDAC's New Leadless Tech
24 Sep
Summary
- Ray Cohen brings four decades of medtech leadership to CAIRDAC's board.
- CAIRDAC's ALPS™ platform uses heartbeat energy for leadless pacing.
- The technology aims to become a new standard of care for pacemakers.
Raymond W. Cohen has joined the board of directors at CAIRDAC, a company developing an innovative leadless pacing platform named ALPS™. Cohen, an accomplished executive with over four decades in the medical technology sector, previously co-founded and led Axonics, Inc. He also played a key role in the successful sales of SoniVie, Ltd. and Nalu Medical.
CAIRDAC's ALPS™ technology converts the mechanical energy of each heartbeat into electricity using a piezoelectric harvester. This onboard rechargeable battery system is designed to eliminate traditional battery constraints, enabling advanced features like multi-chamber pacing and continuous remote monitoring. The company is preparing for its first-in-human study, targeting CE marking in Europe before a U.S. pivotal study.
The global pacemaker market is valued at approximately $5.5 billion. CAIRDAC's leadless pacing platform aims to support dual-chamber pacing and future conduction system pacing. The device is currently investigational and not yet available for sale.
