Independent power producer Enery has secured a significant green financing package from DSK Bank to construct and operate a large-scale battery energy storage system (BESS) in Nova Zagora, Bulgaria. This transaction marks a pivotal moment for energy storage financing in the nation, bolstering Bulgaria's move towards a more resilient and renewable-powered energy landscape.
The standalone BESS facility, with a planned capacity of 150MW/600MWh, is expected to be commissioned by March 2026. Its development is further strengthened by a long-term virtual power purchase agreement secured with Vitol, a global leader in energy and commodities. This arrangement ensures revenue stability and enhances the project's bankability, aligning with its operational profile.
This project is anticipated to establish a scalable model for next-generation energy storage solutions and hybrid offtake agreements throughout Southeast Europe. The collaboration between Enery and DSK Bank, supported by Vitol's involvement, highlights innovative commercial structures and disciplined execution in unlocking bankable storage projects for a sustainable energy future.
