Broadcom confirmed on Thursday that AI research firm Anthropic has placed a significant $10 billion order for the company's latest Tensor Processing Unit (TPU) Ironwood server racks. CEO Hock Tan made the announcement during the company's fourth-quarter earnings call.
This revelation follows Tan's earlier mention of a $10 billion deal during a September earnings call, which generated considerable investor interest amidst the booming AI infrastructure market. Further underscoring the scale of their partnership, Anthropic also placed an additional $11 billion order with Broadcom in the most recent quarter.
Broadcom, known for its custom AI chips called XPUs, is increasingly positioning itself as a competitor to Nvidia in the AI hardware space. The company also announced securing a fifth XPU customer, which placed a $1 billion order during the fourth quarter.
