Summary
- BP to proceed with $5 billion Tiber-Guadalupe project in Gulf of Mexico
- New platform to produce 80,000 barrels of crude oil per day by 2030
- Part of BP's strategy to more than double U.S. production by end of decade

As of September 30th, 2025, British energy company BP has revealed its plans to proceed with a major investment in the Gulf of Mexico. The company has taken the final investment decision on its Tiber-Guadalupe project, which is set to become its seventh oil and gas production hub in the region.
The $5 billion project, which is fully accommodated within BP's financial framework, will include six wells in the Tiber field and a two-well tieback from the Guadalupe field. The new platform is expected to have the capacity to produce 80,000 barrels of crude oil per day, with production slated to begin in 2030.
This investment is part of BP's reset strategy, which is refocusing the company's attention toward oil and gas production and away from renewables. The company aims to more than double its production in the U.S. by the end of the decade, with a target of exceeding 1 million barrels of oil equivalent per day by 2030.
The Tiber-Guadalupe project is BP's second new platform in the Gulf of Mexico in less than two years, as the company continues to strengthen its presence in the region, which the U.S. now refers to as the Gulf of America.
