Summary
- BP found hydrocarbons in Brazil's deepwater Tupinambá block.
- Exploration well 1-BP-14-SPS is located 275 km offshore Brazil.
- Drilling continues toward the pre-salt section of the well.
BP has announced the discovery of hydrocarbons in the deepwater Tupinambá block within Brazil's Santos Basin. This significant find was confirmed in exploration well 1-BP-14-SPS, situated approximately 275 kilometers off the Brazilian coast at a substantial water depth of 2,343 meters. The evaluation of the well's post-salt section is currently underway.
Drilling operations are actively progressing toward the pre-salt section, utilizing the Transocean's Deepwater Mykonos drillship. This vessel is slated to commence a contract with BP in the third quarter of 2026 for an estimated 302-day drilling campaign in Brazil. Upon concluding operations at Tupinambá, the Deepwater Mykonos will transition to BP's Bumerangue block to initiate an appraisal program.
BP holds a 50% working interest in the Tupinambá block, in partnership with Shell, whose 50% stake is pending regulatory approval. The block's Production Sharing Contract, awarded in December 2023, is managed by Pré-Sal Petróleo S/A.
