Air India, a major operator of the Dreamliner in India, has a fleet of 33 such aircraft. The airline's first custom-made Dreamliner post-privatization was scheduled to commence commercial operations on February 1. IndiGo also operates Dreamliners leased from Norse Atlantic Airways.
Gupte acknowledged 2025 as a challenging year for Boeing, referencing the Air India AI171 accident investigation. He assured that the victims' families remain foremost in their thoughts and that the company awaits the Indian Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau's report.
Despite competition from rivals like Airbus, Boeing remains confident in the B787's suitability for a growing number of routes and missions in India. The company has over 265 aircraft operating in India, a crucial market where its annual sourcing exceeds USD 1.25 billion.
