BMW India Faces 3rd Price Hike Amid Global Turmoil
19 May
Summary
- BMW India announces a third price increase, citing forex volatility.
- Electric vehicle sales surge, constituting 26% of Q1 2026 sales.
- Supply chain disruptions due to West Asia crisis may cause delays.

BMW Group India is slated for its third price adjustment this year, with an anticipated 2-3% increase driven by fluctuating foreign exchange rates and increased logistics costs stemming from the West Asia crisis. This follows price hikes in February and April. President and CEO Hardeep Singh Brar noted the company's significant reliance on imports makes it susceptible to currency fluctuations and global shipping disruptions.
While BMW India has a current stock of components to mitigate immediate impacts, prolonged shipping issues in West Asia could soon lead to delays in production and delivery of completely built units. The company is rerouting shipments, incurring longer transit times and higher freight expenses.
Despite these challenges, BMW India is experiencing robust demand, especially for its electric vehicles (EVs), which represented 26% of sales in the first quarter of 2026, up from 21% last year. Supply constraints are currently leading to waiting periods of two to three months for EV models. The company is also observing increased demand in non-metro luxury markets like Ahmedabad, Surat, and Vadodara.
BMW India aims to break into the top 10 global markets for the brand, having achieved 14% growth in 2025 and 17% year-on-year in Q1 2026. Brar acknowledged that sustaining this growth amidst economic and geopolitical uncertainties may be challenging.
