Walden Golf Group, based in Jackson, N.J., has finalized its purchase of Blackstone National Golf Club in Sutton for $9.5 million. Steven Schorr, a principal at Walden, stated the group's intention to upgrade the practice range with modern technology, including Toptracer and heated bays, to enable year-round play. Schorr also emphasized maintaining the club's name and public access, highlighting its beautiful condition and loyal clientele.
Michael Gordon, the club's sole owner since its opening in 1999, sold the club to reduce his extensive commute and spend more time with family. Gordon expressed passion for the course, which saw increased business after the "The Barn" banquet facility opened in 2020. Despite market challenges in 2008 and 2009, Gordon navigated the club through ups and downs over his 30-year ownership.
Walden Golf Group, which has acquired eight clubs this year and owns 18 in total, plans further expansion. Key staff members at Blackstone National, including General Manager Matt Stephens, Director of Golf Patrick Beahn, and Superintendent Stephen Lemieux, are expected to remain. Pinnacle Golf Properties will serve as a consultant for Blackstone National, continuing a management relationship with Walden.
