Summary

- The project is set to cause delays until early 2027.
- The roundabout will provide access to a large housing development.

Blackburn residents and commuters are preparing for extensive delays as a major road upgrade commences. A new £2 million roundabout is being built on the north-eastern side of Blackburn, adjacent to the significant Sunny Bower housing development. This four-arm roundabout is slated for completion in early 2027.
The new infrastructure is designed to facilitate safer access to the Whalley Old Road site, where a total of 1,250 homes are planned over the next two decades, with 165 already under construction. Blackburn with Darwen Council has assured that advance notices and signed diversion routes will be in place for necessary closures.
To minimize impact, Whalley Old Road will remain open for residents and motorists, utilizing temporary two-way traffic lights for most of the construction period. Council officials acknowledge the inconvenience and express gratitude for the public's patience, stating that any road closures will be limited, primarily occurring during the final resurfacing stages.
