JPMorgan Analysts: Bitcoin to Outperform Gold, Stocks by 2036
25 Oct
Summary
- Bitcoin projected for 10% annualized returns over next decade.
- JPMorgan remains cautious about Bitcoin's diversification potential.
- Bitcoin's value has significantly fluctuated since its inception.

JPMorgan asset management analysts have projected that Bitcoin could outperform traditional assets like stocks, bonds, and gold over the coming decade. Their forecast suggests Bitcoin may achieve 10% annualized returns by 2036, significantly higher than the projected 5.5% for gold, 5.6% for Treasury bonds, and 7.5% for large-cap equities.
However, the firm's report, released on October 19, 2026, strongly caveats these projections. Analysts noted that Bitcoin's extreme volatility and unstable market correlations prevent it from being a reliable diversifier in investment portfolios currently. They described it as a speculative asset and a hedge against monetary easing.
Bitcoin, a digital asset facilitating peer-to-peer electronic transfers without intermediaries, has experienced substantial price fluctuations. Reaching a peak value of over $126,000 in October 2026, it has since shed approximately 35% of its worth, trading around $81,500 as of October 23, 2026. This pattern of sharp gains followed by sudden losses has characterized its trajectory since its 2009 launch.
Despite its volatility, Bitcoin remains the dominant force in the cryptocurrency market, which has a total value exceeding $2.5 trillion. JPMorgan analysts acknowledged its dual nature, sometimes trading like a high-risk asset sensitive to global money supply but also being referred to as 'digital gold.' They emphasized that its lack of a clear role as a portfolio diversifier, due to unpredictable correlations with other asset classes, limits its strategic allocation utility at present.
