Three friends from Bihar have established Taruwar Agro Industries, a venture that upcycles banana stem waste into eco-friendly products and achieved Rs 2.5 crore in revenue in FY26. The company converts banana fiber into items such as file folders, yoga mats, and baskets.
This innovative business model provides farmers with an additional income source after fruit harvest and creates local employment. The remaining plant material is utilized for vermicompost and plant nutrition liquid, minimizing waste.
Founded by Jagat Kalyan, Satyam Kumar, and Nitish Kumar Verma during their MBA studies, Taruwar Agro began operations in 2021 in Hajipur. The founders secured initial funding through personal savings and family support.
Taruwar Agro is expanding its product line to include vegan leather and blended textiles, while also exploring opportunities in makhana and healthy snacks. Future plans involve international market expansion, with product samples already sent to France and the Philippines.
