Summary
- Railways sets up holding areas to manage 10-15 lakh passengers during festivals.
- Patna Junction and other major stations will have increased capacity.
- Security and ticketing facilities enhanced to prevent overcrowding and ensure safety.
With an anticipated 10 to 15 lakh passengers heading to Bihar for Diwali and Chhath Puja, Indian Railways has developed a strategy to handle the increased travel demand. Holding areas are being set up at key railway stations, including Patna Junction, to accommodate thousands of passengers. This initiative aims to manage passenger flow, prevent platform overcrowding, and avert potential stampedes during the busy festive period, especially during the return journey after Chhath.
Patna Junction will feature a holding area with a capacity for 4,000 passengers, while Danapur station will accommodate 3,000. Other stations like Rajendra Nagar Terminal and Patliputra Junction will each have facilities for 2,000 passengers. Muzaffarpur station is prepared for 3,000 passengers, Darbhanga for 2,000, and Samastipur for 1,500 to 2,000. These facilities will provide essential amenities and unreserved ticketing services to ease congestion.
Security personnel will be strategically positioned at major stations to monitor platforms, entry/exit points, and crowded areas. Railway authorities will also actively regulate passenger movement to ensure safe and orderly boarding. These holding areas are expected to play a vital role in the smooth management of the substantial passenger traffic anticipated during the festival season, ensuring a safer travel experience for all.
