India and the United Arab Emirates have solidified a robust strategic defense partnership, centering on enhanced security cooperation. The agreement was formalized through a letter of intent signed during a recent visit by UAE President Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan to India.
This comprehensive pact encompasses several critical areas, including defense industry collaboration, advancements in innovation and technology, specialized training, and doctrine development. It also targets improved interoperability, cyberspace security, and joint counterterrorism initiatives.
Beyond defense, the two nations are set to explore joint ventures in advanced nuclear technologies, including the development and operation of nuclear reactors. This collaboration extends to nuclear power plant operations and safety protocols.
Furthermore, India and the UAE reaffirmed their commitment to combating terrorism, with both countries vowing not to provide safe havens for those involved in terrorist acts. They will continue cooperative efforts against terror financing and money laundering.
This deepening relationship also includes a ten-year deal for liquefied natural gas (LNG) and a target to double bilateral trade to $200 billion within six years. The space agencies of both nations also signed an initiative to foster space industry development and commercial collaboration.
