The World Consumer Airport Index 2026 has highlighted leading global airports amidst a turbulent year for air travel. Düsseldorf Airport achieved the highest overall ranking and topped the small hub category, lauded for its extensive airline and destination offerings, alongside swift security processing and efficient operations.
Barcelona-El Prat Josep Tarradellas Airport was distinguished as the premier large hub. This airport offers passengers a wide selection of airlines and destinations, complemented by efficient security checks that average just three minutes.
The index stresses that airport performance hinges on providing ample passenger choice, rapid security, dependable infrastructure, and facilitating convenient connections. Other notable airports include Leonardo da Vinci-Fiumicino Airport, ranked second among large hubs, and Los Angeles International Airport, which secured third place.
Among smaller airports, Zurich was the second-best, followed by Copenhagen. London Heathrow was the UK's highest-ranked large airport, placing seventh, though its nighttime flight restrictions were noted. Seoul Gimpo International Airport unfortunately ranked last among the evaluated small airports.
