27 Oct
Summary
- Beiersdorf aims to protect its Nivea brand in Russia.
- A local business dispute impacted third-quarter sales.
- The company has maintained its presence since 1906.
Beiersdorf, the German owner of Nivea, has affirmed its commitment to remaining in Russia. CEO Vincent Warnery emphasized the company's strategy to protect the Nivea brand within the country, stating its ongoing presence is crucial for this objective. This decision places Beiersdorf among a diminishing number of Western consumer goods companies still operating in Russia following its invasion of Ukraine.
The company reported that a commercial dispute involving its Russian subsidiary and a local business partner adversely affected its third-quarter performance. However, Beiersdorf confirmed that this issue has since been resolved, and normal operations have resumed. Despite the challenge, the CEO stressed the importance of maintaining brand integrity.
Sales in the Eastern Europe region experienced a decline of 14.6% in the third quarter. Excluding Russia, sales in the region saw a much smaller decrease of only 1.3%. Beiersdorf's presence in Russia dates back to 1906, and the company prioritizes continuing to pay its employees' salaries.
