Although granted planning permission in December for a former brickworks site, the park's immense projected visitor numbers and job creation are already straining local water resources. Universal anticipates eight million visitors in its first year, potentially rising to 12 million by 2051, and projects the creation of 8,000 permanent jobs.
However, the Anglian Water facility near the proposed site, Bedford Water Recycling Centre, currently operates at its maximum capacity. Without substantial upgrades, it cannot accommodate the estimated 10.6 million litres of foul discharge the park is expected to generate daily. This necessitates an urgent acceleration of planned upgrade works to prevent environmental issues.
