Bayer Plans $10.5B Roundup Cancer Settlement
17 Feb
Summary
- Bayer is proposing a $10.5 billion settlement for Roundup cancer lawsuits.
- The settlement aims to resolve both current and future claims over 20 years.
- Bayer previously settled most pending lawsuits for approximately $10 billion.

Bayer is preparing to announce a $10.5 billion settlement initiative aimed at resolving ongoing and future cancer lawsuits associated with its Roundup weedkiller. This substantial financial plan is intended to provide closure for claims that have arisen from the herbicide's use.
The German chemical company is reportedly proposing a $7.5 billion class-action settlement, designed to address litigation filed in state court and to cover potential claims over the next two decades. This broad approach seeks to manage future legal challenges.
Furthermore, Bayer is set to allocate $3 billion towards settling existing U.S. lawsuits. These cases involve former Roundup users who allege the herbicide caused them to develop non-Hodgkin's lymphoma and other forms of cancer.
This new settlement push follows a previous resolution where Bayer paid approximately $10 billion to settle most Roundup lawsuits that were active as of 2020. However, that agreement did not encompass future claims, leading to a continuous stream of new litigation.
