29 May
Summary
- Bata India aims to double turnover in five years.
- Premium products now form 60% of sales portfolio.
- Company plans to expand to 3,000 stores by FY29.

Bata India is embarking on a strategic transformation aimed at doubling its turnover within the next five years. This ambitious growth plan centers on three key pillars: premiumization of its product portfolio, expansion of its digital commerce capabilities, and an accelerated franchise-led retail network.
The company has seen a substantial shift in its product mix, with items priced above ₹1,000 now constituting 60% of sales, a significant increase from 40% just a few years ago. This premium segment is expected to grow at nearly double the pace of the mass market.
Bata India also plans a robust retail expansion, targeting 3,000 stores in the next three to five years, up from its current 2,000. A significant portion of this expansion, approximately 80% of the new stores, will be franchise-led, focusing on tier-3 to tier-5 markets and suburban areas.
Digital commerce is another crucial growth driver, currently contributing in the low double digits to revenue and projected to reach 20-25% within two to three years. The company is also streamlining its manufacturing footprint, working with fewer, larger partners to achieve better economies of scale and enhanced capabilities.
