Drills Spin: Barkly Targets Rare Earths Bonanza
17 Jul
Summary
- Barkly Rare Earths launched a 10,000m drilling campaign.
- The project targets expansion of a 40-million-tonne resource.
- Its geology is hosted in soft, weathered sandstone.

Barkly Rare Earths has commenced a substantial 10,000-meter drilling campaign at its flagship Northern Territory project, marking a significant step in resource expansion. This extensive program is designed to considerably enlarge the company's existing 40-million-tonne inferred resource, which boasts a grade of 2100 parts per million total rare earth oxide (TREO).
The drilling initiative will initially focus on deeper holes to establish a robust geological framework, followed by reconnaissance and resource-infill drilling. The project's geological advantage lies in its soft rock setting within near-surface, weathered quartz sandstone, potentially simplifying extraction processes. Furthermore, the deposit exhibits a high proportion of valuable magnet rare earth oxides and low levels of radioactive elements.
Alongside its rare earths focus, Barkly is advancing its Buntine base metals project and has a partnering deal with DevEx Resources for its Murphy West project's uranium rights. The company has indicated a steady stream of news flow is expected throughout the latter half of 2026, including metallurgical test results and a mineral resource update in December.
