Bank Strike Alert: 3-Day Walkout Looms!
2 Sep
Summary
- Bank unions announced strikes for September 11 and September 28-30.
- Key demands include a five-day banking week and revised incentive schemes.
- An indefinite strike is planned from October 26, 2026, if demands aren't met.

The United Forum of Bank Unions (UFBU) has announced a series of nationwide bank strikes, set to impact services on September 11 and from September 28 to 30, 2026. These actions are a response to unresolved issues concerning a five-day banking week and a revised Performance Linked Incentive (PLI) scheme.
If the union's demands remain unmet, an indefinite strike is scheduled to commence on October 26, 2026. The UFBU, representing over 90% of the banking workforce, is pressing for the implementation of a five-day work week, withdrawal of the revised PLI scheme, and bilateral discussions for modifications.
Disagreements also surround the PLI scheme, which unions deem discriminatory. Previously, a strike planned for March 2025 was deferred for negotiations but has since been escalated to legal proceedings, with the matter pending in the Delhi High Court.
