Oklahoma City-based BancFirst has announced its intention to acquire Tulsa-headquartered SpiritBank. This transaction, expected to finalize in the fourth quarter of 2026, will add five new branches to BancFirst's operations, with three located in Tulsa and two southwest of the city.
SpiritBank's assets, totaling $939.6 million, will be integrated into BancFirst. This includes $847.2 million in deposits and $618.4 million in loans. BancFirst, with 109 existing locations and approximately $15 billion in assets as of March 2026, aims to bolster its presence in the Tulsa market.
This acquisition is BancFirst's second recent expansion into the Tulsa area, following the planned acquisition of American Bank of Oklahoma, which was approved by the Federal Reserve in October 2025. The combined institutions are anticipated to command roughly 6.5% of Tulsa's deposit market.
The deal occurs amid a broader slowdown in U.S. bank mergers and acquisitions. Concerns over inflation and broader economic uncertainties are contributing to a more cautious approach among financial institutions regarding consolidation.
