Automattic CFO Departs After Less Than a Month
9 Oct
Summary
- Interim CFO Jeremy Klaperman has left Automattic after less than a month.
- His departure follows a recent governance crisis and board overhaul.
- Sources suggest Klaperman was demoted before his exit.
Automattic's interim chief financial officer, Jeremy Klaperman, has left the company after less than a month in the position. This departure follows a tumultuous period for the WordPress.com parent company, which recently experienced a governance crisis.
The crisis resulted in the resignation or firing of the company's entire board of directors. Klaperman had been elevated to the interim CFO role during this period of instability.
Prior to his brief tenure as interim CFO, Klaperman served as the CFO for Automattic's VIP Enterprise business unit. He replaced Mark Davies, who had briefly held the CFO title after the board placed CEO Matt Mullenweg on leave.
Mullenweg quickly regained the CEO position, and the board was subsequently replaced. The new board includes notable figures such as author Hugh Howey and IRL app co-founders Henry Khachatryan and Krutal Desai.
While Automattic has not officially commented on the reason for Klaperman's departure, sources suggest it followed his demotion back to his prior role. The company has not yet announced a permanent replacement for the CFO position.
