Crypto ATMs Shutdown: Australia's Largest Network Suspended
11 Aug
Summary
- Australia's crypto ATM network registration suspended for three months.
- Failure to comply with anti-money-laundering paperwork cited.
- Regulator deems operator too high risk to continue operating.

Australia's financial-crime regulator, AUSTRAC, has suspended the registration of Cryptolink Pty Ltd, operator of the country's largest crypto ATM network, for three months. The suspension began on August 9 and is set to end on November 9, 2026. This action was taken due to Cryptolink's failure to meet basic reporting obligations, particularly for threshold transaction reports, and its non-response to AUSTRAC's requests for information.
Cryptolink had previously entered into an enforceable undertaking in October 2025 following allegations of late reporting and weak risk assessments. Despite meeting some conditions of that undertaking and paying a fine, the company's subsequent non-compliance led to the current suspension. AUSTRAC CEO Brendan Thomas stated that the operator was deemed too high risk to continue operating.
This development occurs as Australia hosts approximately 1,800 crypto ATMs, the highest number in the Asia Pacific region, with around $275 million transacting annually. Regulators are increasingly concerned about these cash-to-crypto points being used for illicit activities. Australia's Home Affairs Minister has proposed granting AUSTRAC more power to control high-risk products like crypto ATMs.
