Australia Fuel Supply Strong Amid War Fears
22 Mar
Summary
- Australia has 38 days of petrol and 30 days of diesel.
- No immediate plans for fuel rationing are in place.
- The nation imports 90% of its fuel, facing supply chain disruptions.

Australia's fuel supply is currently robust, with no imminent plans for rationing despite international conflict impacting global supply chains. Energy Minister Chris Bowen confirmed on Sunday that the nation has 38 days' worth of petrol and 30 days of diesel and jet fuel in stock.
Although Australia imports approximately 90% of its fuel, and localized shortages have occurred due to the escalating U.S.-Israeli war, the supply chain is considered strong. Bowen noted that six fuel shipments from Asia were canceled but stated that two domestic refineries are operating at full capacity, and more shipments are arriving.
Prime Minister Anthony Albanese reiterated calls for Australians to avoid panic-buying fuel, especially in rural areas experiencing shortages. He highlighted the appointment of Anthea Harris to lead a national fuel supply task force aimed at addressing current shortages and enhancing the domestic fuel supply chain. The government is exploring additional measures to secure future fuel supplies.
