Passenger traffic at Austin-Bergstrom International Airport (AUS) climbed by 2.77% in January, signaling robust demand for air travel in Central Texas. A total of 1,435,466 passengers utilized the airport during the month.
Several airlines reported substantial year-over-year increases. JetBlue Airways saw its passenger traffic more than double, surging by 120%. Frontier Airlines experienced a 91% jump, while Spirit Airlines carried 50% more passengers. Delta Air Lines, the airport's second-busiest carrier, also posted a nearly 29% increase.
International carriers contributed to the overall growth, with KLM Royal Dutch Airlines flying 27% more passengers and Panama's Copa Airlines seeing a 17% increase. Lufthansa also reported a 14% rise in passenger numbers.
Despite the overall positive trend, January's passenger total ranked as the third-highest for the month in the past five years. Significant declines from carriers like Allegiant Air (down 42%) and American Airlines (down nearly 20%) impacted the overall figures. Freight also saw a slight decrease of 6%, although international cargo rose by 2%.
