10 Jan
Summary
- Aurora Expeditions launched its third modern expedition vessel.
- The new ship is named after pioneering explorer Sir Douglas Mawson.
- All three vessels feature the Ulstein X-BOW hull design for efficiency.

Aurora Expeditions, a company established in 1991 with a commitment to environmental responsibility and authentic expedition travel, has introduced its latest purpose-built vessel. This new addition, named the Douglas Mawson, accommodates 154 passengers.
The ship pays homage to Sir Douglas Mawson, an influential Australian Antarctic explorer and scientist. The Douglas Mawson marks Aurora Expeditions' third modern expedition vessel, complementing the Greg Mortimer, launched in 2019, and the Sylvia Earle, launched in 2022.
All three vessels are Infinity-class expedition ships constructed by SunStone and are distinguished by their Ulstein X-BOW hull design. This innovative feature enhances handling, fuel efficiency, and passenger comfort, particularly in rough sea conditions.
