Asia's Energy Leaders Unite for Smart, Sustainable Future

Hong Kong recently hosted the Association of the Electricity Supply Industry of East Asia and the Western Pacific (AESIEAP) CEO Conference 2026. Over 200 leaders from the power and energy sector convened from September 14-16, 2026, under the theme 'Transforming Energy with Intelligence.' The conference served as a critical platform to address escalating electricity demand, climate change, and complex power systems.

Discussions centered on strengthening energy resilience, advancing smart energy development, and ensuring a reliable, affordable, and low-carbon energy future. CLP Power, assuming the AESIEAP presidency for 2026-2027, outlined four priorities to expedite the Asia-Pacific's energy transition. These include fostering multilateral dialogue, promoting technology and knowledge sharing, advancing decarbonisation, and unlocking new business collaboration opportunities.

Financial Secretary Paul Chan emphasized Hong Kong's role as a 'super connector' in deepening regional energy cooperation. He highlighted the growing energy needs driven by economic expansion, electrification, and AI adoption. CLP Holdings CEO T.K. Chiang stressed that intelligence must become an operational capability for the industry, essential for planning, investment, and customer service in this demanding transition phase.

World Energy Council Chair Wong Kim Yin noted intelligence is reshaping energy consumption patterns and infrastructure needs. Established in 1975, AESIEAP comprises members from China, Indonesia, Korea, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, and Thailand. Hong Kong, a founding member, is preparing to host another major AESIEAP event, the Conference of the Electric Power Supply Industry (CEPSI) 2027.
