Argentina Boosts India's LPG Supply Amid Conflict
23 Mar
Summary
- Argentina significantly increased LPG shipments to India in early 2026.
- Nearly 39,000 tonnes were dispatched before the conflict outbreak.
- Argentina's role as a key economic partner for India is growing.

Argentina has significantly ramped up its Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) supplies to India, providing vital support as the West Asia conflict disrupts global energy markets. In the first three months of 2026, Argentina shipped over 50,000 tonnes of LPG to India, more than double the 22,000 tonnes supplied throughout all of 2025. A substantial portion of this supply, nearly 39,000 tonnes, was dispatched from Argentina's Port of Bahia Blanca prior to the conflict's escalation.
This increased export activity is bolstered by Argentina's growing natural gas-driven LPG production. The country's annual output reached 2.63 million tonnes in 2025 and is expected to rise further with the planned commissioning of a new natural gas liquids fractionation unit at its Bahia Blanca plant in 2026. This expansion is explicitly aimed at increasing processed output for export markets.
Argentina is solidifying its position as a key economic partner for India in South America. Bilateral trade between the two nations experienced a robust increase of 36.77%, reaching $6.34 billion from January to November 2025. Beyond hydrocarbons, Argentina is a major supplier of edible oils and is increasingly cooperating with India on critical minerals, including lithium.
