MCG Contractor Faces Action Over Substandard Tiles
11 Mar
Summary
- Laboratory tests show paver blocks are weaker than required.
- Residents' complaints led to a notice for tile replacement.
- Contractor may face cancellation and blacklisting if non-compliant.

A road project in Ardee City, managed by the Municipal Corporation of Gurgaon (MCG), is under scrutiny due to the use of substandard interlocking paver blocks. Laboratory tests commissioned by residents indicated that the laid tiles were significantly weaker than the strength stipulated in the tender. The Ardee City Residents' Welfare Association formally escalated these findings to the state government's grievance portal, CM Window.
In response, MCG has issued a notice to the contractor. The notice mandates the immediate dismantling and replacement of all non-compliant tiles with those meeting the approved specifications. Officials have warned that non-adherence to this directive within 10 days could lead to the cancellation of the contract and initiation of blacklisting proceedings against the agency. No payments have been released to the contractor yet, with any release contingent upon satisfactory completion of the work as per tender conditions.
The project, valued at approximately Rs 1.7 crore, was initiated with a work order on February 27, 2025, and was slated for completion within six months. The tender specified 100 mm-thick ISI-marked interlocking concrete paver blocks using an M50-grade cement design mix. However, visual inspection of the D14 lane in Ardee City revealed blocks marked 'M35', a lower grade than required. Residents reported that nearly half of the 17,500 sq metres assigned for the project, approximately 8,523 sq metres, were laid using these M35 tiles before complaints were raised.
