iPhone 17 Outpaces Predecessor by 14% in First 10 Days

According to the latest report from Counterpoint Research, Apple's iPhone 17 has seen a significant sales boost in the first 10 days of its release. The new flagship smartphone has outpaced the previous generation iPhone 16 by an impressive 14% in the US and China markets.

The standard iPhone 17 model has been particularly well-received, with sales growing by nearly one-third compared to the same period last year. Counterpoint Research senior analyst Mengmeng Zhang attributes this success to the iPhone 17's exceptional value proposition, offering consumers a better chip, improved display, higher base storage, and selfie camera upgrades - all at the same price as the previous model.

"The base model iPhone 17 is very compelling to consumers, offering great value for money," Zhang said. "Buying this device is a no-brainer, especially when you throw channel discounts and coupons into the mix. Simply put, it provides extremely good value-for-money, and Chinese consumers are rewarding Apple for that."

The more premium iPhone 17 Pro and Pro Max models have also seen strong demand, driven by higher carrier subsidies that are pushing consumers towards the higher-end devices. Meanwhile, the new iPhone Air, which replaces the iPhone 16 Plus, is slightly outselling its predecessor.

Despite the solid sales performance, Apple is still facing pressure to deliver on its promised AI-enhanced version of Siri, which has faced delays due to performance setbacks. Rivals like Google and Samsung have already introduced their own AI capabilities on their respective smartphones.
