Apple Home Tech Lead Jumps to Rival Oura

Summary
- Apple's home device engineering lead joins Oura Health.
- Smart display launch postponed again, now slated for 2025.
- Oura Health is aggressively hiring from Apple's talent pool.

Apple's top hardware engineering executive for home devices, Brian Lynch, has left to join Oura Health, a smart ring company. Lynch was responsible for the hardware development of new home products at Apple.
This departure signifies a setback for Apple's nascent smart home division, which has struggled to gain traction against rivals like Amazon and Google. The company has been working on an advanced smart display, originally planned for release last year, but its launch has been repeatedly postponed due to issues with Siri's overhaul. The smart display is now anticipated around September 2025, with other devices like a tabletop robot and home sensor expected in 2027.
Lynch's move is part of a trend of Apple employees moving to Oura Health, which has hired other former Apple staff, including a chief medical officer and a head of design. This also follows other notable executive departures from Apple's home hardware group, including a vice president of program management earlier this year. Apple continues to develop other wearable devices for the AI era, such as smart glasses and advanced AirPods.
