Apple Slashes China App Store Fees Amid Regulatory Pressure
13 Mar
Summary
- Apple reduces commission fees to 25% from 30% starting Sunday.
- Savings for Chinese developers estimated over 6 billion yuan annually.
- Lower fees may lead to reduced prices for Chinese consumers.

Apple has announced a significant reduction in its App Store commission fees for mainland China, lowering them from 30% to 25% starting Sunday, March 16, 2025. Developers participating in Apple's small business and mini apps programs will benefit from an even lower rate of 12%, down from 15%.
This adjustment is projected to save Chinese developers more than 6 billion yuan annually. The state-owned Economic Daily reported that this move will also benefit Chinese digital consumers, potentially saving them up to nearly 1 billion yuan per year through expected price decreases on memberships, game recharges, and other digital services.
The company's decision comes amidst global scrutiny of its so-called 'Apple Tax.' Similar regulatory actions in the EU have already prompted fee reductions there. Reports suggest that Apple faced pressure from Chinese regulators regarding these fees, with the announcement coinciding with World Consumer Rights Day.
