Anthropic, a San Francisco-based AI company, is on the cusp of achieving its first quarterly operating profit. This significant financial achievement is attributed to escalating sales that are surpassing the considerable expenses associated with developing and deploying advanced artificial intelligence.
In its recent investor communications, Anthropic projected June quarter sales to reach at least $10.9 billion. This figure more than doubles the $4.8 billion in revenue reported for the March quarter. Consequently, the company expects its second-quarter operating profit to amount to approximately $559 million.
The demand for Anthropic's Claude AI has seen a marked increase, with software developers utilizing the technology for programming tasks and enterprises employing its premium Mythos model for code vulnerability detection. This financial success is notable within the AI sector, which is frequently challenged by high operational costs.
Separately, SpaceX revealed in its IPO filing that it has a compute capacity agreement with Anthropic. Under this deal, Anthropic is set to pay SpaceX $1.25 billion per month until May 2029. This agreement covers compute capacity from both of SpaceX's AI training data center clusters, Colossus and Colossus II, underscoring the substantial infrastructure required for AI development.
