Anduril Eyes $100B Valuation in New Funding Round

Defense technology company Anduril is reportedly pursuing a new capital raise that could propel its valuation to approximately $100 billion. This potential funding round follows a significant $5 billion raise in May of last year at a $61 billion valuation. The company may structure this as a two-stage process, potentially closing both tranches within the current year.

The defense tech sector is experiencing a notable revival, driven by demand for drones, autonomous craft, and artificial intelligence in warfare. Venture funding in this space more than doubled in the first six months of this year, surpassing the total raised throughout last year. Anduril has capitalized on this trend, securing contracts with various defense departments, including the U.S. Department of Defense and the U.K. Defence Ministry.

Anduril reported its revenue more than doubled to $2.2 billion in last year compared to the previous year. Other companies in the sector, such as Shield AI and Helsing, have also seen substantial funding rounds and valuation increases. A common theme in these deals is a shift towards more affordable, expendable hardware, often referred to as 'attritable' systems.

Additionally, both Anduril and fellow company Mach Industries are strengthening their supply chains, particularly in propulsion systems. Mach acquired a solid rocket motor maker, while the Pentagon has supported Anduril's initiatives to expand domestic manufacturing for these critical components.
