Doctor Takes Helm of Amazon's Expanding Health Unit
28 May
Summary
- Dr. Roy Schoenberg will lead Amazon's healthcare division.
- Schoenberg previously co-founded telehealth company American Well.
- Amazon's healthcare business includes clinics and mail-order prescriptions.

Amazon is appointing Dr. Roy Schoenberg to lead its growing healthcare business. Schoenberg, co-founder of the telehealth firm American Well, will assume his new role on July 1, 2026. He recently stepped down as executive chairman of American Well, where he had served as co-CEO until 2024.
Neil Lindsay, who currently heads the healthcare unit, will relinquish his position and leave Amazon by the end of 2026. Lindsay, who has no prior healthcare background, has been instrumental in the unit's growth since November 2021. His departure follows a period where he oversaw initiatives like a discounted One Medical tier for Prime members.
The company's healthcare division encompasses a range of services, including the One Medical clinic chain and mail-order prescriptions. Amazon has stated that this sector is among its fastest-growing, though specific financial results are not disclosed. Schoenberg also co-founded the elder care startup Aileen.ai, from which he has stepped down.
Separately, Neil Lindsay was named in a Federal Trade Commission lawsuit filed in 2023. The suit alleged deceptive practices concerning Amazon's Prime membership sign-up and cancellation processes. Amazon reached a $2.5 billion settlement with the FTC in September 2025, admitting no wrongdoing. An Amazon spokesperson has stated there is no connection between the lawsuit settlement and Lindsay's planned departure, citing his desire to pursue personal projects.
