- Businesses face significant challenges due to the extended construction timeline.
- The project is now expected to be completed in early 2027.

The Georgia Department of Transportation's $50 million Highway 9 improvement project in Alpharetta, initiated in the spring of 2021, continues to cause frustration for local residents and business owners. Originally slated for completion by spring 2024, the project has experienced significant delays attributed to utility issues and redesign efforts.
Businesses along North Main Street, such as First Body and Wellness Center, have been severely impacted, with blocked driveways hindering client access. Business owners expressed extreme frustration, with one owner recalling moving to the area based on assurances of a shorter construction period.
Alpharetta city officials acknowledge the project's prolonged duration, stating, "We know this project has dragged on way longer than anyone wanted." They are working with the state to finalize the improvements, which include widening the highway to four lanes, adding sidewalks, bike lanes, lighting, and parking.
Despite the setbacks, city officials remain confident that the completed project will enhance the area, with landscaping work expected to commence in November. The Georgia Department of Transportation now estimates the project's completion for early 2027.
