Allianz & Talanx Fund Germany's Green Grid Leap
26 Mar
Summary
- Allianz and Talanx invest in Germany's second-largest electricity grid.
- The deal aims to fund major grid upgrades for renewable energy transition.
- Amprion plans to invest over €36 billion by 2029 for expansion.

Allianz SE's asset management arm and insurer Talanx are set to invest substantially in Amprion, Germany's second-largest electricity grid operator. This significant capital injection is intended to bolster the expansion of the grid infrastructure, a critical step in Germany's ongoing transition towards renewable energy sources.
The collaboration involves Allianz Global Investors and Talanx, who will provide the necessary funding for major grid upgrades. Allianz's European Infrastructure Fund II will acquire an indirect stake in Amprion through Talanx, a member of the M31 consortium which holds a majority share in the grid operator.
This investment comes as Amprion has announced plans to invest more than 36 billion euros by 2029 to expand its network. The increasing reliance on intermittent energy sources like solar and wind power across Europe necessitates such extensive network development and funding.
