Summary
- Up to 115 jobs are at risk at Alexander Dennis's Falkirk site.
- The company proposes to convert its Larbert facility to focus on chassis manufacturing.
- Over half of zero-emission buses in the UK are sourced from overseas.

Bus manufacturer Alexander Dennis has announced plans to potentially close its Falkirk site, a move that could lead to up to 115 job redundancies. Concurrently, the company is proposing to transform its Larbert manufacturing facility into a dedicated chassis production hub. This initiative aims to safeguard approximately 200 existing skilled manufacturing and support jobs that were previously at risk.
The company states these proposals are a response to current market dynamics and aim to improve operational efficiency. This strategic adjustment follows a period where the Scottish Government provided furlough support to Alexander Dennis in 2025, averting a prior proposal to consolidate operations and potentially impact 400 jobs. The UK domestic bus manufacturing sector has seen significant market share erosion, with over 51% of zero-emission buses in the UK being imported.
Alexander Dennis president Paul Davies emphasized the commitment to retaining jobs and restarting manufacturing at Larbert. He highlighted the need for government support to level the playing field for UK manufacturers facing higher operational costs. The Scottish Government has stated it remains in contact with the company and unions, ready to discuss options to protect jobs and the economy.
