Bollywood Star Akshay Kumar Sues Edtech Firm Over $6M Payment Dispute
13 Oct
Summary
- Akshay Kumar filed plea against edtech firm Cue Learn over $6M payment default
- Dispute over endorsement deal, with Cue Learn citing invoice and scheduling issues
- NCLAT now hearing Kumar's appeal after NCLT dismissed case

As of October 13th, 2025, Bollywood star Akshay Kumar is engaged in a legal battle with edtech firm Cue Learn Private Ltd over an alleged $6M payment default from an endorsement deal. According to official filings, Kumar had fulfilled all terms of the contract, receiving an initial $5.2M installment. However, the second $4M installment, reportedly due regardless of further brand activity, was never paid.
Cue Learn cited reasons such as unreceived invoices and scheduling issues for withholding the remaining payment. Kumar's legal team first took the matter to the National Company Law Tribunal (NCLT) under the Insolvency and Bankruptcy Code, claiming unpaid dues since 2021. But the NCLT ruled that the case did not qualify as an insolvency issue, stating contract disputes not tied to operational or financial debt are outside its jurisdiction.
Undeterred, Kumar's lawyers have now appealed the dismissal to the National Company Law Appellate Tribunal (NCLAT), arguing the deal's terms clearly obligated Cue Learn to pay the remaining $4M. The NCLAT is currently considering the matter after reviewing submissions from the actor's counsel.
