Consumers are increasingly turning to AI for online shopping assistance, with 39% reporting its use and 85% finding it improves their experience. AI aids shoppers in finding desired products and discounts more efficiently, with 66% trusting AI tools for accurate shopping results.
AI-driven visitors are proving more valuable to retailers. In March 2026, AI traffic converted 42% better than human customers, a stark reversal from March 2025 when AI conversions were 38% worse. AI visitors also engage more, spending 48% longer on sites and browsing 13% more pages.
Revenue per visit from AI traffic was 37% higher in March 2026, compared to human traffic being worth 128% more a year prior. However, retailers must optimize their sites for AI, as about a quarter of homepage and category page content, and 34% of product pages, are not easily accessible by AI.
