Ex-DOJ Antitrust Chiefs Launch AI Legal Startup
29 Oct
Summary
- Former Justice Department antitrust leaders founded FluxCap.
- The startup uses AI to aid plaintiffs lawyers in complex cases.
- FluxCap aims to bridge the resource gap for plaintiffs' firms.

Two former leaders from the U.S. Justice Department's antitrust division have established a new legal technology startup named FluxCap. This venture is designed to harness the power of artificial intelligence, enabling plaintiffs' lawyers to more effectively identify, develop, and litigate complex legal cases on a large scale.
Co-founded by Jonathan Kanter and Doha Mekki, FluxCap aims to address what they perceive as an underserved market for plaintiffs-side litigators. Their goal is to bridge the resource disparity between private practice plaintiffs' attorneys and well-funded government agencies or defense firms. Kanter, who previously led the Justice Department's antitrust division, noted that many AI legal tools are developed for defense firms, leaving a gap.
The launch of FluxCap coincides with the broader adoption of AI in the legal sector. Tools are increasingly used for evidence analysis, research, drafting legal documents, and case management. This trend sees lawyers moving to AI-centric startups or established firms developing their own proprietary platforms. For instance, Morgan & Morgan, a large personal injury firm, has committed significant investment to AI technology.
FluxCap plans to cultivate deep specialization in specific legal practice areas, beginning with antitrust law. The technology is built upon three core engines: facts, law, and strategy. The company's chief technology officer, Marshall Seid, brings valuable experience from his previous role as a lead tech engineer at Palantir.
