AI Star Buys California Mansion with Golf Course

AI researcher Tony Yuhuai Wu has reportedly purchased a sprawling Rs. 670 crore estate in Hillsborough, California. The property, known as Villa de Verano, spans 12 acres and features a private nine-hole golf course and a 150-seat outdoor amphitheatre. Wu, who was a founding member of Elon Musk's xAI, left the company in February of this year. He had previously interned at OpenAI and Google DeepMind before joining Google as a research scientist in 2021. Wu's academic background includes a PhD in machine learning from the University of Toronto, where his advisor was Jimmy Ba, also a founding member of xAI. Wu played a key role in xAI's development, particularly in AI mathematics and machine reasoning, contributing to the chatbot Grok. His departure came shortly after SpaceX acquired xAI for a significant valuation. China-born researchers like Wu are increasingly prominent in leading AI companies globally.
