AI Bubble Bigger Than Dot-Com? Expert Warns
1 Jun
Summary
- AI company valuations exceed Dot-com bubble levels.
- Price-to-sales ratios for tech giants are extremely high.
- The current AI boom may be larger than 1999's bubble.

Sridhar Vembu, Founder and Chief Scientist of Zoho Corporation, has issued a significant warning regarding the current state of the Artificial Intelligence (AI) market. He stated that the valuations of AI companies have now escalated beyond the heights reached during the Dot-com bubble of 1999.
Vembu highlighted the concerning price-to-sales ratios of major technology corporations. He noted that companies like Nvidia are trading at approximately 20 times their sales, while Apple, Alphabet, and Microsoft hover around 10 to 11 times sales.
Drawing a parallel to the Dot-com crash, Vembu cited Scott McNealy's early 2000s remarks. McNealy had previously emphasized that a 10x price-to-sales ratio requires extraordinary, sustained performance to be justified.
Vembu expressed his view that the current environment constitutes an 'absurd bubble,' potentially exceeding the scale of the 1999 Dot-com bubble. This comes amid a strong rally in AI-related stocks, fueled by expectations of substantial growth and productivity gains across industries.
