Summary
- 74 heritage sites in England receive £41m for repairs.
- Burslem market hall in Stoke-on-Trent gets £1m.
- Funding supports repairs for historic churches and town halls.
Historic heritage sites across England are set to benefit from a substantial £41m in repair and renovation funding. This allocation will support 74 different locations, preserving their historical significance. Among the recipients is the Grade II listed Burslem indoor market hall in Stoke-on-Trent. Built in 1879, this market shut down in 2003 due to safety concerns related to falling masonry.
The Burslem market hall has been earmarked to receive £1m from this new funding package. This initiative follows a recent £4m scheme that commenced in April. The government has announced that this funding comes through two new schemes: the Places of Worship Renewal Fund and the Heritage at Risk Capital Fund. These funds will assist in the restoration of various historic buildings, including churches, synagogues, and town halls.
