- The investment aims to repurpose, revitalize, and reinvent towns for economic growth.

Over £3.7 million in funding has been committed to revitalizing community spaces in two Cumbrian towns: Egremont and Dalton-in-Furness. This significant investment originates from the Borderlands Partnership.
The largest portion, £1.8 million, will be directed towards the former Red Lion site in Egremont. This area will be transformed into a vibrant community hub, complete with a cafe, workshop facilities, and a public square designed for community gatherings.
Further investment in Egremont includes £900,000 allocated for redeveloping the Florence Arts Centre. This project, located on a former iron ore mine site, aims to enhance the centre with an expanded cafe, improved exhibition areas, and additional workshop capabilities.
Dalton-in-Furness is set to receive a new "pocket park" funded by £570,000. This green space is specifically designed for regular use and local events, featuring new landscaping, seating, planting, and pathways to foster community engagement.
Mark Fryer, Cumberland Council leader and a Borderlands Partnership board member, stated that the investment's objective is to empower communities to "repurpose, revitalise and reinvent their towns." This initiative is part of the Borderlands Inclusive Growth Deal's Place Programme, which seeks to bolster the economies of 22 towns.
