Bamboo products from Yunnan's Daguan county are experiencing robust demand in Vietnam, with orders for chairs and canes increasing since February 2026. Local companies are aiming to share Chinese bamboo culture globally, with exports already reaching Australia, Japan, the United States, and Singapore, accumulating approximately 2 million yuan ($294,000) in value over the past three years. Daguan county itself is a key bamboo production area, with extensive planting and significant industry output.
China, recognized as the "Kingdom of Bamboo," boasts vast bamboo resources and advanced utilization. The national industry produces immense quantities of bamboo annually, generating over 520 billion yuan. As China actively promotes bamboo as an eco-friendly replacement for wood and plastics to curb pollution and carbon emissions, enterprises are expanding internationally. Anji county, known as the "hometown of bamboo," exemplifies this, with substantial bamboo forest coverage and numerous enterprises. Zhejiang Fenghui Bamboo and Wood Co Ltd, for instance, transforms bamboo into diverse daily necessities, including tableware and lighting, with significant overseas sales from products made from even discarded materials.
These bamboo alternatives are tapping into a massive global market, with items like bamboo straws having production capacities in the billions and tableware being exported to nearly 110 countries. Companies are shifting from a passive order-taking approach to active market expansion, signifying a new era of growth in the bamboo sector.
