- 'Broken English' documentary offers innovative portrait of singer Marianne Faithfull
- Filmmakers draw inspiration from Beckett's 'Krapp's Last Tape' to explore Faithfull's life

In a significant development, Utopai Studios has recently launched with two ambitious projects: the historical epic 'Cortés' and the sci-fi series 'Space'. The studio has also forged partnerships with K5 Intl. and Opsis.
Separately, the documentary 'Broken English' is set to premiere at the Venice Film Festival's Out of Competition section. Directed by Jane Pollard and Iain Forsyth, the film offers an innovative and playful portrait of singer-songwriter and actress Marianne Faithfull. The filmmakers were inspired by Samuel Beckett's play 'Krapp's Last Tape', using a similar approach to explore Faithfull's life and career.
'Broken English' includes archival footage, a roundtable debate, and fresh renditions of Faithfull's songs by artists like Courtney Love and Suki Waterhouse. The film is centered around unscripted interviews with Faithfull, conducted in a fictional 'Ministry of Not Forgetting'. The Ministry's staff, played by Tilda Swinton and George MacKay, guide the audience through Faithfull's fractured past.
