Summary
- Today co-anchor Craig Melvin, 46, shares his own engagement story
- Melvin proposed on a boat in Miami, but the moment was almost ruined by his fumbling and the boat's late arrival
- Melvin's future bride's first reaction was "I think I'm gonna throw up"

In the wake of Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce's high-profile engagement, Today co-anchor Craig Melvin, 46, has shared the story of his own proposal, which took place on a boat in Miami back in 2011. Melvin revealed that he popped the question in a location that was special to his now-wife, Kristin Czarniak, as she had worked and lived there for a while.
However, the moment was not without its hiccups. Melvin admitted that he was "all fumble-y" and the boat was late, almost causing the surprise proposal to go awry. But it was his future bride's response that really took the cake. "The first thing she said, I said, 'Will you marry me?' I kid you not, 'I think I'm gonna throw up.' She said, 'I think I'm gonna throw up,'" Melvin recounted.
Melvin's co-host, Laura Jarrett, reassured him that the unexpected reaction was actually a nice surprise, as there are "so few surprises anymore" in today's overly scripted world. Melvin agreed, laughing about the comical moment that ultimately led to a beautiful 2011 wedding in Washington D.C., where the couple met.

Melvin and Czarniak, 47, have been married for over a decade and share two children, Del, 11, and Sybil, 8. Melvin took over as co-anchor of Today in January 2023 after Hoda Kotb's departure from the NBC morning show.
