This milestone puts Superman in an elite group, as it is the first DC film release to achieve this since The Batman in 2022. Furthermore, the new Superman film has already surpassed the entire lifetime gross of Zack Snyder's 2013 Man of Steel, which topped out at $291 million domestically. The latest Superman installment is also poised to overtake Snyder's 2016 sequel, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, which grossed $330.4 million domestically.
Overseas, Superman has already cleared the $500 million mark, further solidifying its status as a global box office success. This impressive performance comes as the film faces stiff competition from another highly anticipated superhero release, Marvel Studios' The Fantastic Four: First Step, which opened last weekend to a promising $216.6 million worldwide.
Both superhero films have been well-received by critics and audiences, with each earning an A CinemaScore. However, Fantastic Four does boast slightly higher scores on Rotten Tomatoes, with 86% from critics and 93% from audiences, compared to Superman's 83% and 91%, respectively.
