Superhero Supremacy: Superman Soars to No. 1 on PVOD, Knocking Out Jurassic World Rebirth

As of August 17, 2025, there's a new champion on the PVOD charts. James Gunn's Superman has surpassed Scarlett Johansson's Jurassic World Rebirth to become the No. 1 movie on iTunes.

Rebirth, which hit digital platforms on August 5, had been sitting atop the iTunes Top 10 Movies chart for some time. The film, directed by Gareth Edwards, follows Johansson's covert operations expert Zora Bennett as she and her team embark on a mission to collect genetic material from the world's three most colossal creatures. However, their expedition takes an unexpected turn when they become stranded on an island with a civilian family.

Despite its lengthy stay at the top of the PVOD rankings, Rebirth has now been dethroned by Superman. The first DC Universe blockbuster from Gunn, which was released digitally and on PVOD just yesterday, has quickly risen to the No. 1 spot. During its opening weekend in theaters last month, Superman grossed $125 million, enough to claim the top spot at the domestic box office as well.

Both Rebirth and Superman are set to arrive on home video in September, with Rebirth dropping first on the 9th, followed by Superman a couple of weeks later on the 23rd. The films will come packed with special features, including deleted scenes, gag reels, and behind-the-scenes looks.
